Obituary of John Marvin
John Hawkes Marvin, 28, of Coventry died Friday (January 28, 2012) due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Hebron. He was born in Manchester, January 1, 1984, the son of John W. Marvin of Coventry and Deborah (Hawkes) Marvin of Bolton. John was a 2002 graduate of Coventry High School and was a past member of the Manchester Police Explorers. He served in the US Navy, graduating from Boot Camp Div. 448 with the honor grade. He also received the Navy League Award as the outstanding recruit. He graduated January 21, 2003 from Master-At-Arms A School. In 2005 he was assigned to Roosevelt Roads in Puerto Rico, and from 2005-2007 he was a member of the US Navy Mobile Security Force Detachment 207, with assignments all over the world, included Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2008. He later worked for Manchester Ambulance Service and joined the National Guard A-Co 1-102nd Inf. John went on to the Connecticut State Police Youth Academy where he received the Trooper Russell Bagshaw Scholarship. He went on to attend Hartford Police Academy, graduating on July 2, 2010 and has served as a Patrol Officer with the City of Hartford Police Department since his graduation. Besides his parents, he is survived by his fiancée Scotti Easton and was the loving father of their son Jack Everett Marvin, and his brothers Jeffrey T. Marvin and his fiancée Meghann L. McInerney of Cambridge, MA, and Officer James C. Marvin, with whom he served in both the military and Hartford Police. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents Willard and Louise Marvin of Manchester, his maternal grandparents Harlene Fairbanks of Coventry and her husband David Fairbanks, and Clifford L. Hawkes Jr. and his wife Beverly of Houlton, MA, his uncles and aunts, Chris and Diane Marvin of Manchester, and Tom and Laurie Marvin of Coventry, and his aunt Linda H. Krob and her husband Allan "Skip" of Manchester. John was also a loyal and loving relative and friend to numerous cousins, friends, fellow officers, Scotti's family, and many lifelong Coventry friends. He was predeceased by his great-grandparents Grayce and Harlan Wallbeoff. Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester on Tuesday (January 31, 2012) from 3-9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1 pm at South United Methodist Church 1226 Main St. Manchester followed by a procession for burial with military honors in New Cemetery, Coventry.
