Obituary of Joseph A. R. Walling

Joseph A. R. Walling, Jr., 72, of Manchester, the husband of Loretta (Giddens) Walling to whom he was married for 51 years, died Friday (December 13, 2013) at St. Francis Hospital. He was born in Hyannis Port, MA the son of the late Joseph and Marie Walling, and had lived in Manchester for 46 years. Prior to his retirement he was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and had worked part time for 48 years at Stop & Shop. Joe umpired Little League and high school baseball, and was an avid NY Giants and Boston Red Sox fan. His family would like to offer a special note of thanks and appreciation to the staff and Doctors in the ICU at St. Francis Hospital. Besides his wife Loretta, he is survived by his children Joseph Walling III and his wife Victoria of Carthage, NY, Mark Walling and Kristina of Rocky Hill and Laura Walling of Manchester, and his grandchildren John and Ashley Walling, and Jake and Michael Walling. He was also predeceased by his brother Thomas and his sisters Martha and Sharon. Funeral service will be held on Thursday (December 18th) at 11:00 a.m. at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester, followed by burial in Buckland Cemetery, Manchester. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
