Obituary of Gary Roberts

Gary Lewis Roberts, 55, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday (February 12, 2008). The son of John L. and Margaret C. Roberts, he was born on an Air Force Base near Warrington, Lancashire, England. Gary was nearly three years old when the family was transferred to Waco, TX for one year; Homestead, FL for four and one half years; Rome, NY for six years; and to Manchester in January of 1967. Gary obtained the rank of Eagle Scout by the time he was fifteen. He also played trombone in the Manchester High School Band. After graduation he studied one year at the University of Connecticut and then became an ROTC cadet at Norwich University in Northfield, VT. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the USAF. After over a decade of service Gary got out of the service and was employed at Aetna for several years. After the massive layoffs of the nineties, he established his own company "All Jobs by Gary". Gary excelled at Square dancing and Rounds and was a former Vice President and President of the South Windsor Square Dance Club. He was predeceased by his mother; and is survived by his son, Jeffrey of Boston, MA; sisters, Christine and Jack Pendleton of Canby, OR, and Kathryn and Anthony Janco of Hudson, NH; his brother, Dale and Kimberly Roberts of Trabuco Canyon, C A; his father, John and Loisjean Roberts of Manchester; and a very special friend, Renee Taylor of Windsor. Funeral services will be held at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home on Monday at 10 a.m. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to a charity of the donors choice.
