Obituary of William F. Freeman

William F. Freeman, 92, the husband of the late Veronica (Aceto) Freeman died peacefully Sunday, September 29, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Ironton, OH on December 23, 1920, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary (Lyons) Freeman. He was also predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Hall and his brother John Freeman. Bill was the President of the Class of 1939 at Ironton High School. He attended Ohio State University and was forever a loyal Buckeye's fan. He leaves many lifelong friends and a lifetime of fond memories from his days in Ironton. He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps stationed in Sarasota, FL where he met and married Veronica, a Manchester, CT native. They returned to Manchester and built their own home on Avery Street. Bill completed his education and received degrees from Willimantic State Teachers College and Hillyer College. He spent his career as a teacher and principal in several schools in Manchester including Robertson, Nathan Hale and Verplanck where the school library is named in his honor. Upon retirement Bill said, "They try to make this business too complicated. The relationship between the teacher and the child - that's the real nuts and bolts of it". Bill was an active member of Second Congregational Church UCC where he served on many committees and boards. Bill was also a proud member of Manchester B.P.O.E. #1893. He is survived by his loving daughters and sons-in-law, Colby Freeman and Peter Meisinger, and Dana and William McCarthy. He leaves his grandchildren Beri and John Williams, Shay and Jon Browne, Meg and Dan Goodstein and Ted and Mary McCarthy. He also leaves his adoring great-grandchildren Olivia and Luke McCarthy and several nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by Veronica's parents, Ralph and Mary Aceto and her siblings Russell Aceto and Joanne (Gene) Rossi. The family would like to express its sincere gratitude to the wonderful staff of Guardian Angels, A Caring Hand, Vitas Hospice and White Oaks who so lovingly cared for him for several months. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 5th at 10:00 at Second Congregation Church UCC 385 North Main Street, Manchester, CT. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
