Obituary of Amelia Dzen

Amelia "Amy" Dzen, 96, of Manchester beloved wife of 62 years to the late Anthony Dzen passed away peacefully Monday (September 16, 2013) at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late William and Edith (Padegimas) Sleurpa. She was born in the Buckland section of Manchester, February 1, 1917 and lived most of her life in Manchester and spent her winters in Naranja, Florida. She attended Manchester schools graduating with honors from the M.H.S. Class of 1935B. She worked at Standard Washer & Mat Co. and Pratt & Whitney in the purchase parts department; also was secretary to the A. Dzen Construction Company for many years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Bridget Church, Manchester, and the Manchester Lithuanian Club of which her parents were founding members. Amy also enjoyed sports. In her earlier years she was known as "Slugger" for the softball team the Buckland Redcaps and she was a loyal supporter of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. She is survived by her son Raymond Dzen and his wife, Janice of Bolton; her daughters, Patricia Connelly and her husband, Timothy of Manchester, and Nancy Modean and her husband Richard of Manchester; her grandchildren Robert Dzen and his wife Michele of Ellington, Rebekah Dzen of Manchester, Ted Dzen and his wife Aaron of Richmond, VA, Christopher Connelly of Austin, TX, Jessica Connelly of Manchester Todd Dzen of Marlboro, NJ, and Vanessa Walmsley and her husband William of Wilson, NC; and her great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Anthony Dzen of Ellington. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her brother Albert Spaulding and her son-in-law Ronald Modean. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday (September 21st) at 9:15 a.m. from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Bridget Church 80 Main St. Manchester, CT followed by burial in St. James Cemetery, Manchester.
