Obituary of Frederick A. Tracy

Frederick A. Tracy E.d.D., 81, of Manchester, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 19, 2013 after a brief, but courageous battle with lung cancer. He was the husband of the late Margaret (Peg) Caird FitzSimmons Tracy who died in 2001. He was born November 26, 1931 in Willimantic, CT to Peter and Eva (Nilan) Tracy. He was a veteran of the United States Air force. He attended Willimantic State Teachers College, the University of Connecticut and earned his E.d.D from Nova University. He worked as a teacher in Portland, CT and then in Hartford, CT, where he retired as a longtime principal of Barnard Brown Elementary School. His time spent at Barnard Brown was a source of great joy and pride in his life. The children and staff at Barnard Brown elicited many fond memories and stories over the years. He was a member of the Manchester Country Club and spent many treasured days playing golf and cards there. Fred was a kind, loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. His memory will live on in our hearts forever. He leaves behind his children, Kathleen Tracy Sikand and her husband Christopher of Manchester, Matthew B. Tracy of South Glastonbury, his stepsons, Mark D. FitzSimmons of Hebron and Steven C. FitzSimmons of East Hartford. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Timothy, Daniel and Margaret Sikand and Emily and Kyle FitzSimmons. In addition, he leaves behind his sisters and brothers, Ruth Blake of New Jersey, Eve Goeken and her husband Bill of Windham, Janet Harrington and her husband Patrick of Windham, Peter Tracy of Willimantic, Alfred Tracy and his wife Anne of Hartford and his sister-in-law Natalie Tracy of Willimantic. He was predeceased by his brothers John, James and George, his sisters Jeannette, Marie and Margaret, and his daughter-in-law Shelley FitzSimmons. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association 1301 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday (September 24th) at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption 29 Adams St. South, Manchester followed by burial in St. James Cemetery, Manchester.
