Obituary of Nellie G. Golas

Nellie G. Golas, 100, lifelong resident of Manchester, the wife of 52 years to the late Anthony J. Golas, died Monday (September 9, 2013) at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Born in Manchester, she was the daughter of the late Bonifacio and Dominica Galli. Nellie attended Manchester schools, having to leave before finishing due to the Great Depression. She proudly received her diploma in 2001 in a special graduation ceremony at Manchester High School. She was a communicant of St. James Church. Nellie was a very social person. She was a member of the Manchester Senior Center, loved playing cards and golfing with friends and was recently a member of several committees at the Arbors. She is survived by her children, David A. Golas and his wife, Olivia of Manchester, and Doreen M. (Golas) Bourne and her husband, Paul of Santee, SC; her grandchildren David Golas and his wife , Laura; Jon Golas and his wife, Danielle; Ben Golas and his wife, Alyssa; Amy Young, Marcy Huefner and her husband, Barr; Monica Johnson, and her husband, Michael; and Karla Hilton and her husband, Chris; 11 great-grandchildren; her brother Donald Galli of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was predeceased by her son, Donald M. Golas, and her brother, Andrew Galli. Funeral service will be held on Saturday (September 14, 2013) at 11:30 am from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial at Noon at the St. James Church 896 Main St., Manchester followed by burial in St. James Cemetery.
