Obituary of Raymond J. Murphy
Raymond J. Murphy, of Manchester, the devoted husband of 62 years to the late Barbara W. Murphy died peacefully Thursday (August 15, 2013) at Manchester Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Keene, NH, November 3, 1924, he was the son of the late Raymond J. and Mildred (Loiselle) Murphy. He received his Bachelor's Degree from UCONN and was a US Navy veteran of World War II. Ray was a H.A.M radio operator with call sign, N1DUQ. He worked as a volunteer at both the New England Air Museum and the Vintage Radio Museum of CT and was also an avid HO model railroader. Ray was a wonderful sketch and oil artist as well. Ray was a self-taught pianist, and added his music to every gathering where there was a piano within reach. He was also a devout Catholic, and communicant of the Church of the Assumption, with a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was only appropriate that his death occurred on the Feast of the Assumption a day devoted to Mary's assumption into heaven.
He is survived by his children and grandchildren who brought tremendous joy to his life, Rick Murphy and his wife Donna of Bloomfield, Jim Murphy and his wife Donna of Coventry, Nancy Murphy Kalinowski and her husband John of Portland, Kathleen Murphy Larsen and her loving companion Miguel Hernandez of Glastonbury, and Maureen Murphy Schobert and her husband Chuck of Bradenton, FL; and his 10 grandchildren to whom he was an excellent, devoted grandfather, Jason, Kim, Sarah, Christopher, Owen, Kara Lee, Kelsey, Melina, Shelby and Connor. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his sister Barbara Murphy Sandwell. Ray's family would like to also extend special thanks to Ray's spiritual friend James Dolan of Manchester who faithfully visited and brought Communion every week to our Dad' home, and then nursing home, which brought so much comfort.
