Obituary of Amelia H. McGann

Amelia Hamill "Millie" McGann, 104, wife of the late James P. McGann to whom she was married for thirty-seven years passed away on Tuesday, June 18th. Amelia was born in Portadown, County Armagh, Ireland the daughter of Patrick Hamill and Sarah Murphy Hamill on July 6, 1908. She was predeceased by her brothers John and Edward and sisters Sarah, Mary and Margaret. Amelia is survived by her loving family, daughter Maureen Cavallo and husband Alfred, son James and wife Mary; grandchildren Marybeth Lewis, Kristin Keane and husband Michael, Steven Cavallo and wife Kristin, Dawn (McGann) Pope and husband John, Michael McGann and wife Claudete and Matthew Cavallo; eight great grandchildren Keegan Cavallo, John and William Pope, Tristan and Amelia Keane, Anthony, Dominic and Vincent Cavallo and Nicholas Cavallo. Amelia retired from SNET Co. in 1973 after thirty-two years of service. She was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, St. Margaret's Circle Daughters of Isabella, a former member of St. Bridget's Rosary Society and a communicant of the Church of the Assumption in Manchester. Amelia also leaves several nieces, nephews close friends and several cousins in Ireland. Amelia was also predeceased by her loving grand son-in-law Richard P. Lewis. Amelia was a loving and generous person giving a smile to everyone she met. "We love you a bushel and a peck." Special thanks to the kind and compassionate care Amelia received from the nurses and CNA's at Crestfield Rehab Center, Wing 4 and to Father Stephen Sledesky. Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester on Friday (6/21) from 4:00 to 7:00. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 at the Church of the Assumption 29 So. Adams St. Manchester followed by burial in St. James Cemetery 368 Broad St. Manchester. Family and friends are asked to go directly to church on Saturday morning. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to either the Assumption School Scholarship Fund 27 So. Adams St. Manchester, CT 06040, the St. Bridget School Scholarship Fund 74 Main St. Manchester, CT 06042 or a charity of the donors' choice.
