Obituary of James H. Breen
James "Jim" Breen, of Manchester, passed away on Friday June 7, 2013 surrounded by his family at Manchester Memorial Hospital. He was born May 18, 1927 in Hartford, the son of Louis and Elizabeth (Brennen) Breen, he grew up in the Parkville section where he played on the Parkville football team. Jim served in both the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army during World War II and later with the U.S. Army Military Police. He was a Hartford firefighter, retiring after 30 years of service. He then worked as a deputy sheriff in the Enfield court system for many years. He was a great lover of golf, though it was not always kind to him. Although he could no longer play, he could still be found at the Manchester Country Club hanging out with his many friends and solving the world's problems. He was a communicant of St. James Church in Manchester and a member of the VFW in Manchester. Jim was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins, UCONN basketball, and the Red Sox. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Joan (Waterhouse) Breen; daughters Joann (William ) Emerson of Coventry, Kathleen (Dennis) O'Neil of Tolland, Marjorie Breen of Manchester, Patricia Breen of Los Angeles, and Colleen (Sean) McDonough of Glastonbury; his grandchildren Jen, Tara, Kasey, Scott, Bailey, Tucker, Lauren, and Jim and his great-grandchildren Zach, Olivia, and Chance. He was predeceased by his son Richard J. Breen. Jim's family would like to offer a note of thanks and appreciation to all the girls at Crestfield Rehabilitation Center wing 4, the staff of Manchester Memorial Hospital and the North Central hospice program at VNHSC. Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Street, Manchester on Sunday (6/9) from 3-6. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at St. James Church, Manchester at 10:00am. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at church.
