Obituary of Anna Joy
Anna Frances Joy "Francie" nee Hayes of Manchester passed away on May 3, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Francie was born in Drimoleague Co Cork Ireland to the late Jerome and Margaret (Keohane) Hayes. She was the second of eight children. She was predeceased by her loving husband Timothy Joy in 1988 and by her brothers Sean, Willie and sister May O'Mahoney of Co Cork Ireland.
Francie was a wonderful wife, mother and friend to many. Francie first emigrated to England where she met and married Timothy Joy. They then emigrated to Canada and settled in Toronto for seven years where Patrick, Margaret and Martin were born. In 1963 the family immigrated to Manchester and Brenda was born a year later. Francie was a homemaker until her children were grown and then she began her career with the the AARP Pharmacy in East Hartford where she worked for 20 years until its closing. She then began another career working for Caring Hands/VNA in Vernon working till 2011.
Francie was an active member of St Bridgets Catholic Church in Manchester and the Irish American Home in Glastonbury. She was the 2006 St Patrick's Day Parade Marshall for Manchester proudly wearing her sash and walking with her pet dog in the Hartford parade.
Francie is survived by her four children, their spouses and five grandchildren. Patrick Joy of Manchester; Margaret Ferraro and James of Lewisberry PA; Martin Joy of Manchester; and Brenda Keleher and Michael of Hebron CT. Kelly and Meghan Ferraro, Daniel, Liam and Garrett Keleher will sorely miss their dear Nana. Francie is also survived by her sister Rita Kinoulty and sisters in law Betty Shea and Helen Joy all of London. Her surviving brothers and their wives are Jeremiah (Patricia), Denis (Kathleen), Thomas (Evelyn) all of Co. Cork Ireland and numerous loving nieces, nephews and friends.
A Mass for Christian burial will be celebrated Friday May 10th 2013 at 10:00am at St. Bridgets Church 80 Main St. Manchester, CT. Calling hours will be Thursday 4-8pm at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St., Manchester,
