Obituary of William K. Daley II

 

William “Bill” K. Daley II, 74 of Manchester, husband of 41 years to the late Joan Daley, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Manchester Memorial Hospital, after a very brief illness.

Affectionately known as “Dumpy”, he was born at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, to the late William K. Daley l and Cecile (Malone) Daley. He graduated from East Catholic High School in 1967 and attended the University of New Haven, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in 1972. He joined the Manchester Police Department and served the community for over 20 years. During his tenure, he received a Medal of Valor in 1973, Meritorious Service Award in 1985, Medal of Valor in 1995 and a Lifesaving medal in 1998.

After retiring from the police department in 1998, he worked at Manchester Candy and Tobacco until 2019.

He loved his family and friends, trips to Cape Cod, the Boston Bruins, the Boston Red Sox and Christmas. He was known for his infectious laugh and telling a great story, albeit long.

Dumpy is survived by his sons, Thomas A. Daley and his wife, Erin, of Manchester, William K. Daley III of Manchester; his beloved grandchildren Aaron, Logan, Ellery, and Elisabeth; and his sister Kerry Anne Daley and her partner Andrew Murray of London, England.

Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St. Manchester on Friday, December 15 from 4pm-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Maurice’s Church in Bolton at 10am with burial in East Cemetery in Manchester.
