Obituary of Martha Pratt Eddy

Martha (Marti) Pratt Eddy of Manchester, CT, passed away on November 13, 2023, at Hartford Hospital.

Marti was born in Hornell, NY, on February 16, 1953, the daughter of the late Belden Pratt and Jean Morris Pratt of Canisteo, NY. A 1971 graduate of Canisteo Central School, she went on to get a B.A. in Sociology from SUNY Geneseo in 1975. In 1994, Marti received her Master’s Degree (MSM) from The American College of Financial Services. While at Geneseo, Marti met the love of her life, James Eddy, of Elmira Heights, NY, and they married on April 16, 1977. They initially resided in Newington, CT. Marti worked for LIMRA, Lutheran Brotherhood, Thrivent, and Mass Mutual before retiring in 2020.

Marti’s passion for family and friends will be remembered and missed. Yearly since 2003, she and Jim have gathered for a week with her siblings at Green Lakes State Park outside Syracuse, NY. It gave everyone a chance to see one another as the nieces and nephews were growing up, and although attendance has varied over time, the siblings have continued to share walks, sing songs, play games, and just enjoy being together.

Marti engaged in family genealogy, storytelling, her book club, Outlander groups, gardening, and the Manchester Women’s Club (MWC). Always an avid reader, Marti helped promote literacy by collecting hundreds of books to help stock the MWC’s Little Free Libraries.

Marti was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, James, her siblings: Francis (JoAn) Pratt of Canton, OH, Barbara Dickerson of Fairport, NY, James (Linda) Pratt of Penfield, NY, and Mary (Mark Cotter) Pratt-Cotter of McDonough, GA, and ten nieces and nephews, and many cousins.

A memorial service will take place at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home at 219 West Center Street, Manchester, CT on Saturday, December 9th at 2pm.

Dressy casual attire is welcome.
