Obituary of Dorothy B. Brindamour

Dorothy "Dot" B. Brindamour, 97, of Manchester, entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 3, 2023. Daughter of the late William H. and Stella (Zdziebkowski) Braun, Dot was born on February 17, 1926, in Putnam, CT. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Theodore Brindamour, in 2002. They were happily married for 55 years. Their souls are reunited once more.

Dot was a vibrant and active member of her community for decades and she will be sorely missed. She believed in being a good neighbor, planning and coordinating a Block Party in her neighborhood several times over the years. She participated in local, state and national politics, serving as a long-time Vice-Chairwoman of the Manchester Democratic Town Committee and being a delegate to the 1974 National Democratic Convention, which adopted the first national party charter. Dot fought against the Vietnam War and was a vocal advocate for civil rights and women’s rights, attending countless protests and rallies. An avid sportswoman, Dot pitched in the Manchester Women’s Softball League into her 50s, and was inducted into the Manchester Sports Hall Fame in 2022. For many years she served on the Manchester Parks and Recreation committee. In addition, as a member of the Manchester Historical Society, Dot supported saving Manchester’s history and historical properties. A woman of faith, she was a congregant of the Church of the Assumption. Later in life she attended Manchester Community College, earning an Associate’s Degree in Gerontology. On top of all that, she found time to garden, tending her roses, and growing and canning her own fruits and vegetables. But most of all, she was a dedicated wife and mother, raising five children. When her own children were grown, she considered herself fortunate to also be actively involved in nurturing her seven grandchildren. Dot was a true giver. She gave generously to her family, neighbors, community, and strangers. In her later years, when she had slowed down and was unable to give as much, she always remembered to give her gratitude, spreading joy wherever she went with a kind word and her infectious smile.

She is survived by her five loving children, Ted and his wife Cindy of Charleston, SC, Bill of Palm Springs, CA, Bob and his wife Pat of Manchester, CT, Dorothy Wakefield and her husband Jack of Manchester, CT, Paul and his husband Steve Cronkite of Middletown, CT; her grandchildren, Sandy, Merrilee, Rob, Dan, Chrissy, Christian and Paul; her great grandchildren, Wynn, Beau, Brynn, Kai, Quinn and Ryder. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Peter Tognalli.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of The Assumption, 27 Adams St. S. in Manchester, followed by interment at St. James Cemetery, also in Manchester. For online condolences, please visit www.tierneyfuneralhome.com.
