Obituary of Mary Ellen Gess
Mary Ellen (St. Germain) Gess, 87, of Manchester, Connecticut, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023, after a short illness. She was born in Wallagrass, Maine, on October 7,1936, the youngest of ten children to Henry and Modeste (Ouellette) St. Germain. Mary Ellen was married to Ronald W. Gess of Manchester, CT, on November 11, 1967.
Mary Ellen is survived by her children, Barbara Gess of Manchester, CT, and Robert Gess of Boston, MA; her sister Irene Pinette of East Hartford, CT, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Ronald Gess, her siblings Herman St. Germain, Louise Jacques, Germaine St. Germain, Lorraine Paulman, Lillian Plourde, Edmund St. Germain, Julie Sopher, and Dora Martin.
Mary Ellen enjoyed sewing, her many crafts and hobbies, and her beloved UCONN Huskies women’s basketball; but most of all spending time with her children and family.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 27th, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Street in Manchester, with the funeral service following at 11:00 AM. Burial will immediately follow at East Cemetery, 220 East Center Street in Manchester.
