Ann Mongell

Obituary of Ann M. Mongell

Ann Mongell, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and entertainer extraordinaire, left this world on October 17, 2023. She lived for 99 amazing years and was an inspiration and role model to everyone who knew her.

Ann was born on January 2, 1924, in Connellsville PA to Lena and Vincenzo Orazi. One of six siblings, she met and married the love of her life, Robert E. Mongell, in 1948. Ann and Bob eventually settled in Manchester where Ann lived for over 70 years.

Ann made a home, raised a family, and bucking the norms of the times, went to work as an executive secretary, leading eventually to a 25-year career as a paralegal at Day, Berry & Howard law firm in Hartford. She was known for her fashion sense, her fabulous cooking, and for hosting some amazing parties for her friends and neighbors. After Bob’s passing, she remade herself as a volunteer, a rummikub aficionado, and a travel buddy and party planner to a large circle of friends. Ann was living a vital, independent life right up until illness caught up with her.

Ann is lovingly remembered by her children MaryAnne Combelic of Meriden, Amy Duquette (Ray) of Wethersfield, Robert Mongell (Cheryl) of Andover MA, and John Mongell (Colleen) of North Andover MA, as well as 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and many more relatives and friends who will never forget her. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of North 8 at Hartford Hospital who showed Ann kindness and compassion that her family will remember always.
