Obituary of J. Lucien Plante
J. Lucien Plante, 89, of Vernon, the husband of the late Leonie L. Plante, died peacefully Friday, September 29, 2023, at his home. Born in Norwich, July 17, 1934, he was the son of the late Leo and Elodie Plante.
He was a prolific basketball and baseball player during his school years at Norwich Free Academy and American International College. His sporting achievements earned him inductions into the NFA sports Hall of Fame, the Norwich Sports HOF, and the AIC Sports HOF.
Upon finishing school, he proudly served in the US Army. After his honorable discharge, he began his journey in teaching by finishing his schooling with a Master’s degree in education. He followed with a 30+ year career in teaching, working most of that at Avery St/Philip R. Smith School in South Windsor.
He is survived by his sons Robert Plante, and William Plante and his wife Mary Jane Plante; his grandchildren James Plante and Margaret Plante; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St., Manchester on Tuesday, December 19th, 2023, from 9-10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bridget Church, 80 Main St., Manchester, followed by burial with military honors at Hillstown Road Veteran Cemetery.
