Barbara Lee Carrico Haksteen was born in Newark, New Jersey on April 23rd, 1930 and passed away on September 24th, 2023. She was the daughter of Cythera Elizabeth Woodall and Charles Carrington Carrico. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude in English Literature from Farleigh Dickinson University in 1952 and a Masters degree in Library Science and Information Technology from Southern Connecticut State University in 1980. She worked at Hoffman-La Roche Pharmaceuticals as a technical writer until she married and moved to Washington D.C. where she was a grants analyst for the National Science Foundation. After relocating to Connecticut, she was assistant to the managing partner of Cummings and Lockwood law firm. In 1988 she was hired by the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford and had advanced to Director of Administration when she retired in 2000. Her retirement was filled with wonderful times with her children and grandchildren, lunches and concerts with friends, reading, tennis, crossword puzzles, vacations in Rhode Island and New Hampshire and travel in Europe and the States. She is survived by her son John David, her daughter Rebekah and son in law James Weech, and her daughter Rachel and son in law James Fontanazza. She is survived by her grandchildren, John Albert, Sean Dean and his wife Caitlin, Christen Lee, Katie Jane and her husband Nick, Jennifer Lee and her husband Justin, and Elle James and her husband Matt. She is also survived by her great grandchildren John Thomas, Madison Grace and her soon to be brother, Michelina Jane, Mackenzie Sofia and Olivia Paige. She is also survived by her dear, long-time friend Joyce Sturm and family. We would like to thank the kind and caring staff at Manchester Memorial Hospital.
