Ana Maria Vivar, 65, of Manchester, passed into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Daughter of the late Máximo “Papito Mazo” Huamán and Dominga “Mamita Yoli” Gil, Ana was born on July 26, 1958, in Lima, Perú.

Ana was an incredibly kind, loving, and very resourceful woman. She had a childhood full of beautiful memories as well as responsibilities. From an early age, she learned to care for her youngest siblings while both of her parents worked for most of the day. One of the things that she learned to do well during this time was to cook. And boy, DID she cook. Among many of the qualities for which friends and family will remember her, her cooking is certainly at the top. Everything that she cooked was delicious, always a bit spicy (just the right amount) and as she always said, made with lots of love. “Causa” was the dish she loved to cook the most – mostly always helped by her son Jonathan as the sous-chef – and everybody always wanted her to bring some to family or friend gatherings. She always pleased her grandson Gabriel with ají de gallina whenever he asked for it. Only she was able to make it the way he liked it. Another one of her favorite things was dancing. She would try to get everybody to dance at any party she went to (“No sean aburridos y salgan a bailar”), and she loved dancing with her children and grandchildren even through distant Facetime calls, if they were unable to do so in person. Even during the worst part of her illness, she would try to do a couple of “pasitos pirañas” while dancing to old-school salsa, and she would feel great afterwards.

Ana María was a very hard-working person. She was always on her toes finding something to help with. She held many jobs during her life, especially in Perú, where she would go from being an administrative assistant, accountant, seamstress, party decorator, clothing reseller (very resourceful, as mentioned above) – anything she had to do to ensure that her family always had warm food on the table and clothes to wear. She studied Accounting at San Marcos University in Perú but could not finish her degree because she had to dedicate her time and resources to care for her family. She was, however, able to obtain multiple accounting certifications in the United States, fulfilling that dream to some degree. Nevertheless, the job she loved the most was becoming the queen of the hotel kitchen at the Marriott Residence Inn in Manchester, CT where she worked for more than 20 years. She was loved by co-workers and guests alike, as she was always complimented on her service and remembered by her smile. She created many memories at the hotel where she would help anywhere and everywhere and would cook for hotel staff whenever there was a snowstorm, or some type of activity programmed. Because of her generous spirit and unwavering loyalty to her love of cooking, the hotel will be honoring her memory by putting up a plaque and naming the kitchen area after her. This shows how much she was loved and recognized.

We would need pages to describe the beautiful person that she was and the many people that now cry her departure from this world. We will always remember her stories about el Rímac and her summer trips to Ica from her childhood, her beautiful smile and all the love she would give to everyone - no matter whether they were friends or family - but especially to her children, whom she loved so dearly. She will be greatly missed.

Ana is survived by her sons Jonathan and William and his wife Eva, her ex-husband William, her grandchildren Gabriel and Rafael, her siblings Carmen, Miriam, Marco Antonio, Gloria, Marianela, Edward and Jorge, and many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ana was predeceased by her parents Máximo and Dominga as well as her brother César, whom she is joining in heaven.

Relatives and friends are invited to the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St. in Manchester on Friday, September 8 for a visitation from 5pm to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, September 9 at St. James Church, 896 Main St. in Manchester at 9am (please meet directly at church) followed by a burial at East Cemetery in Manchester.

· The first way is to donate to the Cancer Center at Hartford Hospital, where Ana underwent treatment and was cared for very kindly by her doctor Dr. Thumar, and all the nurses and hospital staff. · The second way is to donate to a voluntary fund we have created to support the fulfilment of one of Ana’s last wishes, which was to bring her beloved siblings from Perú for one final farewell. Ana María Vivar, de 65 años de edad, residente de Manchester, pasó a su eterno descanso el miércoles 23 de Agosto del 2023, rodeada de su amada familia. Hija de Máximo “Papito Mazo” Huamán y Dominga “Mamita Yoli” Gil, Ana nació el 26 de Julio de 1958 en Lima, Perú.

Ana fue una mujer increíblemente generosa, amorosa, y sobre todo muy ingeniosa. Tuvo una niñez llena de muchos recuerdos hermosos, aunque también de muchas responsabilidades. Desde una temprana edad, tuvo que tomar el mando en casa y cuidar a sus hermanos menores mientras sus padres trabajaban durante la mayoría del día. Una de las cosas que aprendió a hacer muy bien durante este periodo era cocinar. Y sí que cocinaba. Dentro de tantas cualidades por las cuales sus amigos y familia la recordarán, su amor a la cocina es indudablemente una de las más notorias. Todo lo que cocinaba era delicioso, siempre un poquito picante (la cantidad correcta) y como ella siempre decía, hecho con mucho amor. La Causa era el plato que le gustaba cocinar más – casi siempre ayudada por su hijo Jonathan, de asistente de chef – y siempre todos querían que trajera un poco a las fiestas y reuniones familiares. Otra cosa que siempre hacía era complacer a su nieto Gabriel con un ají de gallina cuando él se lo pedía. Sólo ella lo cocinaba como a él le gustaba. Otra de sus cosas preferidas era el bailar. Siempre animaba a todos a bailar en cualquier fiesta (“No sean aburridos y salgan a bailar”) y le encantaba bailar con sus hijos y nietos mediante llamadas distantes de Facetime, si no se podía en persona. Hasta en la peor parte de su enfermedad, trataba de hacer un par de “pasitos pirañas” mientras bailaba salsa antigua, y se sentía muy bien después de hacerlo.

Ana María fue una persona muy trabajadora. Siempre andaba inquieta y no podía estar sin hacer nada, como ella decía. Tuvo muchos trabajos durante su vida, especialmente en Perú, donde fue asistente administrativa, contadora, costurera, decoradora de fiesta, revendedora de ropa, en fin, todo lo que hubiese que hacer para asegurarse de que su familia estuviese bien y que no les faltara nada. Ana estudió contabilidad en la Universidad Mayor de San Marcos en Perú y estuvo cerca de terminar su carrera, pero no pudo hacerlo porque tuvo que dedicar su tiempo y recursos a cuidar a su familia. A manera de reivindicación, cuando estuvo aquí en Estados Unidos pudo obtener múltiples certificados de contabilidad llegando a cumplir, de alguna manera, ese sueño. Sin embargo, el trabajo que ella más amó fue el de ser la reina del área de cocina del hotel Marriott Residence Inn en Manchester, CT donde trabajó por más de 20 años. Ana se ganó el cariño y el respeto de sus colegas y de los huéspedes del hotel quienes siempre la halagaban por su servicio y la recordaban por su sonrisa. Ana creó infinitos recuerdos en ese hotel donde ayudaba por todos lados y cocinaba para los trabajadores del hotel cuando había una tormenta de nieve o alguna actividad programada y lo hacía todo siempre rápido, delicioso y con mucho amor. Por su espíritu generoso y lealtad inquebrantable hacia su trabajo, el hotel va a honrar su memoria poniendo una placa y nombrando el área de la cocina a su nombre. Esto es muestra más grande de cuánto era querida y reconocida en este trabajo.

Necesitaríamos decenas de páginas para describir la hermosa persona que fue Ana María y el amor y las anécdotas que tuvo con tantas personas que ahora lloran su partida de este mundo. Siempre recordaremos sus historias de infancia y juventud en el Rímac y sus viajes de verano a Ica de niña, su hermosa sonrisa y todo el amor que le brindaba a todo mundo – sin importar si eran amigos o familia – pero especialmente a sus hijos, a quienes amaba tanto. Se le extrañará enormemente.

Ana será recordada eternamente por sus hijos Jonathan y William y su esposa Eva; su exesposo William; sus nietos Gabriel y Rafael; sus hermanos Carmen, Miriam, Marco Antonio, Gloria, Marianela, Edward y Jorge; sus cuñados y cuñadas que siempre la trataron como una hermana y muchos sobrinos(as), primos(as), y amigos(as). Ana se unirá en la eternidad a sus padres Máximo y Dominga, al igual que a su hermano César.

Parientes y amistades están invitados a la Casa Fúnebre John F. Tierney, ubicada en 219 West Center St. en Manchester el viernes 8 de septiembre para su velorio de 5 a 8pm. Una Misa de Sepultura Cristiana se llevará a cabo el sábado 9 de septiembre en la iglesia St. James, ubicada en 896 Main St. en Manchester a las 9am (favor de dirigirse directamente a la iglesia), seguida por el entierro en East Cemetery en Manchester.
