Dominic DeNicolo

Obituary of Dominic DeNicolo

With deep affection, we celebrate the life of Dominic DeNicolo, 81, son of the late Dominic Sr. and Jeanne (Malo) DeNicolo. Dominic was born on July 31, 1941, in Norwich, CT and passed away peacefully at home in Ellington, CT on July 28, 2023. Dominic inspired all who knew him with his brave and determined battle with lung cancer. Never one to complain, he faced his final journey with dignity and strength.

Dominic graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1959 and soon thereafter served in the United States Airforce as a medic, highlighted by delivering a baby while stationed in Germany at only nineteen years old. After his time with the Air Force, Dominic returned to Connecticut where he met and married his wife, Jean in 1967.

Dominic had a deep love for the game of golf, becoming a highly skilled and lifelong player. Known for his smooth, effortless swing, he developed many rewarding friendships while playing as a member of Manchester Country Club. Dominic often recounted how he was happiest while playing golf, especially when playing the game with his family.

Dominic was a skilled craftsman, working as a tile setter for most of his career. He was a stickler for detail and developed a reputation for providing the highest quality work and for doing things the right way, a trait that was passed down to all his children. Thousands of family homes and businesses across Connecticut still benefit from the quality of his exceptional work. Dominic was interested in US history and enjoyed books and documentaries on the American Civil War as well as World War II. Most of all, Dominic enjoyed his family and friends. He will be remembered for his deep-throated laugh, classic sense of humor and “tell it like it is” approach to life.

Dominic is survived by his wife, Jean (Osgood Harrington); his children, Clifford DeNicolo and his wife Ann, Lauri Everette and her husband Kent; his two stepsons, Christopher Harrington and his wife Janice and Timothy Harrington and his wife Joann. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, two great granddaughters, three siblings and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

John F. Tierney Funeral Home has care of the arrangements. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, 156 Providence Ave. in Taftville, CT, on September 8, 2023, at 11:00AM, followed by a burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
