Obituary of Christopher S. Gotay

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Chris, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend, who left us all too soon at the age of 60. He departed from this world on July 20, 2023, after a long illness leaving behind cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Chris was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Lauren, and together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, travel, and shared dreams. He was a loving and caring father to his four children, Cari, Tyler, Jesse, and Kimmy. His presence in their lives brought joy, and unwavering support.

As a grandfather to Emily and Benjamin, Chris delighted in being a source of wisdom and playful mischief. He relished the opportunity to be involved in their lives, sharing with them his love for sports, his vast knowledge of trivia and his warm sense of humor.

Chris was a loving and respectful son, and he deeply appreciated the values and guidance his parents Norcka and Gabe instilled in him.

As a brother, Chris shared a unique and loving connection with his sister, Suzanne. Growing up, they formed an unbreakable bond that continued throughout their lives.

Chris was not only a dedicated family man, but he was also a great friend to many. His magnetic personality and genuine kindness drew people towards him, and his circle of friends was a testament to the positive impact he had on those around him.

Sports held a special place in Chris's heart, and he found joy in watching and discussing baseball and playing softball. He was involved in many online baseball, hockey, and basketball leagues. He was also involved in a local Stratomatic Baseball League. His passion for sports was infectious, and he could often be found cheering for his favorite teams, the Mets, Rangers, Jets and Knicks engaging in friendly rivalries with friends. He was the most knowledge person at everything and everyone’s phone-a-friend. The trivia master. Everyone wanted him on their team! Saratoga horse racing track was his happy place, the smell of manure brought him joy and he made sure to get there every year.

One of Chris's endearing traits was his fantastic sense of humor. He had a unique ability to light up a room with his infectious laughter and knack for sharing witty jokes. Among his favorites were his infamous "poop and fart” jokes, which never failed to bring laughter to anyone fortunate enough to hear them.

In his 60 years, Chris touched the lives of many, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. As we mourn his loss, we take comfort in the knowledge that his spirit lives on through the lives he touched and the memories he created.

Chris will be dearly missed by his sister and brothers from another mother - Christine, Alfred, and Anthony, his adored nieces and nephews - Melissa, Nick, Natalie, and Kathryn, his loved in-laws Bill, Carol, and Googie, his loving but demanding fur babies, Buster, Sassy, and Mo and a wide circle of friends who became family.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W Center St, Manchester, CT, calling hours from 9AM-11AM memorial service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Assoc.

Rest in peace, my beloved Chris. Your light will forever shine bright in our lives.
