Obituary of Mariana B. Riehl

Mariana Riehl, 90, of Glastonbury, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. Daughter of the late Michael and Betty (Schneider) Riccardi, Mariana was born on December 21, 1932, in Mt. Pleasant, NY.

Mariana was raised in New Rochelle, NY and graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1951. In 1954 she graduated from the Westchester School of Nursing and went on to become a practicing nurse for 48 years until her retirement in 2002. She spent all of her professional career working at South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, NY predominately working as an operating room nurse, a psychiatric nurse, and a visiting nurse. In 1955 Mariana married Donald Riehl and together they raised their family in Wantagh, NY. In 2003 she moved to Glastonbury, CT to be closer to family. Mariana enjoyed her family, friends, playing bridge, tennis, and painting. In Glastonbury she was an active volunteer working at the Second Hand Thrift Shop and delivering Meals on Wheels. In her senior years, she developed a strong interest in poetry and became an award-winning poet.

Mariana is survived by her two sons, Bill and his wife Lisa, John and his partner Sandra; her grandchildren, Jill, Al, Peter and Michael; her great-grandchildren, Mac, Cam and Milo. Besides her parents, Mariana was predeceased by her brothers, Anthony and Joseph Riccardi.
