Obituary of Victor I. Echeandia, Sr.

Victor Ismael Echeandia - “Vic,” 66, of East Hampton, Connecticut, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut.

Victor was born on May 30, 1957, in Tallahassee, Florida, to Ismael Echeandia (deceased) and Eneida Davila Echeandia. As a child, Victor lived all over the United States including Tallahassee, Florida; Canutillo, Texas; Florence, Arizona; Brentwood, New York; Leavenworth, Kansas; and Danbury, Connecticut.

Victor graduated from Danbury High School in 1975 and remained in Connecticut the rest of his life, living in Danbury, Cobalt, and East Hampton. He worked for the State of Connecticut for over 30 years as a mental health worker at the Connecticut Valley Hospital in Middletown, Connecticut and Fairfield Hills Hospital in Newtown, Connecticut.

Victor was a devoted and loving father, as well as a caring son and brother. He had many close friends. Victor truly lived his life to the fullest. His favorite pastime was restoring his 1963 split window Corvette. He was an avid golfer, with one of his favorite locations to golf being Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where he would attend an annual golf trip with his friends. He also enjoyed playing blackjack at the casinos and would always say he “beat the odds.” Over the past few years, he enjoyed cycling with his son, Vic Jr.; his brother, Frank; his nephew, Christian; his brother-in-law, John; and friends. He liked to follow “Court TV” and enjoyed discussing the merits of the cases, analyzing the evidence, and having discussions about them. He liked to talk politics, but never took it too seriously.

Victor had a great sense of humor, was easygoing and always had a positive attitude toward life. He was happy to be retired and always said he was enjoying the good life.

Victor is survived by his son, Victor Echeandia Jr. and his daughter, Mary Echeandia; his sister, Elizabeth (John) Buchholz, and his brother, Frank (Carmen) Echeandia; his nieces Jessica (Brian) Maley and Sara Buchholz; and his nephew Christian Echeandia. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Echeandia Travieso.
