Obituary of Craig Calef

Craig Gerald Calef, 74, passed away in Glastonbury, CT on June 25, 2023. He was born November 7, 1948, in Lewiston, ME to Glendon Calef and Catherine (Scribner) Calef of Norway, ME.

Craig was the second of five children and enjoyed growing up in ME and eventually East Hartford, CT, where the family moved in 1957. Craig was an excellent chess player, played the clarinet, and lettered in track twice at George J. Penney High School.

Craig joined the Air Force in 1968 and trained in Lackland, TX. He was assigned to the 836th at McDill AFB in Tampa, FL where he painted camo on jets for Vietnam. He was honorably discharged as a Sargent in 1972.

Craig had a long career with the State of CT, working in purchasing and web design. After a long stay with the Department of Transportation, he retired in Vernon, CT. Craig enjoyed landscaping, listening to classical music, writing, and taking care of his cats.

The family is thankful for those who cared for Craig in the latter part of his life, such as Linda Beauchemin, Andrew Knott, and Bruce and Linda Calef.

Craig was predeceased by his parents and leaves behind an elder sister Linda Beauchemin of Manchester, CT, and younger siblings Bruce Calef of Lebanon, CT, Dana Calef of Joplin, MO, and Karen Calef of Mansfield, CT. Craig also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are under the direction of John F Tierney Funeral Home of Manchester, CT. Remains will be interred at Pine Grove Cemetery, Paris, ME, next to his parents.
