Obituary of Marilyn P. Barile

Marilyn “Lynn” Barile, formerly of Portland, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Hartford Hospital, surrounded by loved ones. Lynn was born December 24, 1935, in Connellsville, PA to the late Michael and Meredith (Younkins) Pinto.

Lynn was also predeceased by her husband Fran Barile, sisters Joan (Wennergren) Metcalfe, Fay Hunt, and Susan Pinto. She is survived by her niece, Laura Barassi and husband, James, of Leominster MA, her nephew, Michael Wennergren and wife, Laura, of Hendersonville TN, as well as great-nephews and great-niece; John Wennergren, Katie Wallwrath, Nicholas Barassi, Anthony Barassi, and Vincenzo Barassi. Lynn also leaves her nieces Bonnie, Laverne, Jeanine, Yvonne Barile, Annette Scott, Donna Giger, Denise Donegan, Amanda Dewart, Betty-Lou Lupacchino-Goree, Antoinette Boyle, Lisa Bugee, Cheryl Major, and her nephews Michael, Wayne, Rocco, Pasqual, John, Ronald, Gary, Tommy, Bobby, Bill, Joe, and Fran Barile, as well as their spouses and children. 

Lynn graduated in 1954 from Manchester High School. She was employed by the State of CT Labor Department. She was married to her beloved, Fran Barile, on April 4, 1959, for 61 years. She retired in 1991. Lynn will always be remembered for her incredibly quick and wicked sense of humor (like her father) and her one-line zingers. There wasn’t a family get together that didn’t involve Lynn making us laugh so hard we all ended up crying. She inherited her mother’s deep love for babies and children. She was, by far, the quintessential “favorite aunt.” When Aunt Lynn was coming to the house, you knew it was going to be the best day of your life! She had an enormous heart and loved her family fiercely. She was always there to listen and always gave just the right amount of advice. She enjoyed traveling anywhere with her beloved Fran. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in Acapulco. They also enjoyed trips to Niagara Falls, Italy, Lake Tahoe, New Mexico and Las Vegas on their 50th anniversary. Her most favorite destination was anywhere, as long as she was surrounded by her family.

Lynn enjoyed hitting a bucket of balls with Fran at the driving range, walking the beaches of CT, RI, and Cape Cod. She was a diehard UConn Women’s Basketball fan, to which they were season ticket holders for years. Later, they enjoyed following the CT Sun. She always enjoyed the family rivalry of the Yankees versus The Red Sox. She also loved placing bets on “the ponies” by choosing horses that had names of family members. She said that gave her good luck. She was always a winner! Above all else, Lynn’s family and friends were her most precious and greatest possessions.

Her family would like to thank her most loving and devoted caregivers, Charmaine, Evadney, Brenda, and Charmin, for their abundant love, patience, and unending devotion to “Marilyn.”

Family and friends may gather at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St. Manchester, on Friday, May 19th, from 9:30-10:45 am. A procession will follow from the funeral home to St. James Cemetery, 368 Broad St. Manchester, for an 11:00 am graveside service.
