Obituary of John S. Andrulonis

John S. Andrulonis, 86, of Manchester, passed away peacefully on April 30th, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital with his loving family by his side. John was born on November 23, 1936, in Shenandoah, PA. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to the late Anna M. (Erbe) Andrulonis.

After graduating from J.W. Cooper High School in Shenandoah, he joined the Navy and was stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga. He had many fond memories of his time in the Navy, especially when his ship was on duty in the Mediterranean. He enjoyed attending his ships’ reunions in New Orleans, Albuquerque, and Virginia. He was looking forward to San Antonio in 2024 and will likely be there in spirit.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy, John and his wife Ann, as she was known, relocated to Hartford, CT. His Uncle Henry helped him get a job and he remained a Connecticut resident for the rest of his life. He retired from the Travelers Insurance Company Data Center, as a Director. After retirement, John and Ann became snowbirds. They loved their condo in Englewood, FL and made many new friends.

John was a long time member of the Army & Navy Club in Manchester where he enjoyed many good times, especially working Bingo and playing in the Monday night Setback League with his good friend Gary Duchesne. He was a season ticket holder for the Hartford Whalers and the Boston Red Sox for many years. He still missed The Whalers! John enjoyed UCONN Basketball, men and women, and watching golf on Sunday afternoons. He was very athletic from a young age and enjoyed golfing up until his early 80’s. He was very well read and especially enjoyed his daily newspapers. He was always on the sidelines or in the audience for any of his grandkids activities.

John is survived by his daughters and their husbands; Cathy and Mark Surawski of Wethersfield, CT and Pam and Angelo Masi of Glastonbury, CT. He was a very proud “Jaj” to his four grandchildren and they loved him very much; Matthew Surawski of Seattle, WA, Luke Surawski of Wethersfield, Jennifer Masi of Los Angeles, CA and Stephen Masi of Glastonbury. John also leaves his special companion, Bette-Ann Vittner and her daughter and family who lovingly welcomed him into their home. He also leaves the breakfast “boys” and too many friends to name.

Calling hours will be at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center St, Manchester on Sunday, May 7th from 3-6 pm. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial, Monday, May 8th at 9:30 am at St. Bridget Church, 80 Main St, Manchester. Please go directly to the church. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford.
