Obituary of Joseph A. Goodfield

Joseph Anthony Goodfield, 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Belfast, Maine, on March 27, 2023, after a short illness. Joe was born on September 30, 1932, to the late Francis and Mary Palin Goodfield.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Joyce Ostrowski Goodfield; his son Joseph Goodfield and his husband Todd Seibel; his daughter Lauren Colson and her husband Albert (Chuck) Colson; his brother Bryan Goodfield and his wife, Irene; and his sister, Deliah Storrs, and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his brother, Francis Goodfield, Jr., and his sisters, Mary Rose Martino and Annette Rodrigue.

Joe grew up in Bristol, CT and in 1947 he was the first Soap Box Derby winner in Bristol and went on to compete in Akron, Ohio. Joe served 4 years in the Navy. He and Joyce moved to East Hartford, CT in 1963. They eventually moved to Belfast, Maine to be near their daughter, Lauren and her husband, Chuck.

Joe owned his own business, R & G Auto Service, in Manchester, CT. He was on the Board of Directors for the Automotive Service Council for many years. He closed the business after 17 years and went to work for Schaller Acura in Manchester. He was Past Exalted Ruler for the Rockville Elks #1359. He was a devoted Elk member and called Bingo for many years until he moved to Maine.

Joe dearly loved his family and was so proud to be a Dad. He loved all animals, especially the family dogs and his current dog, Maggy. He loved to travel, and he and Joyce took many trips throughout the country and parts of Europe. Joe loved sports, especially football. He liked to cross country ski, play golf and was an avid bowler. Joe loved any kind of fishing, especially fly fishing.
