Obituary of Austin I. Wilkie

Austin I. Wilkie, 93, of Manchester, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023. He was born in Manchester Memorial Hospital February 10, 1930. He was the son of Florence and Ernest Wilkie.
He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years Barbara Conlon Wilkie and his sister Ernestine Barrera.

Austin served in the Air Force from 1948-1950. After the service, he went to work at Terry Corporation. He worked there until they closed. He was the President of the union while working there.

Austin met Bill W in 1978. He maintained his friendship with Bill W until he passed away. During the next part of his life, he worked for the Manchester Police Dept and worked part time as a counselor at 2 rehab centers. He led groups and did individual counseling. He also worked as an alcohol counselor and ran groups in Manchester. Austin was a friend of Bill W. for 45 years. 

Austin leaves three sons Austin Wilkie and his wife Betty of Windsor, CT, Brian Wilkie of Wethersfield, CT and William Wilkie of Belfast, ME; 7 grandchildren Lisa, Jenna, Tiffany, Ashley, Michael, Michelle and Jason; as well as 2 great grandchildren Alex and Hailey.

Family and friends may call on the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center St. in Manchester, on Monday, March 27th, 2023, from 4-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. James Church, 896 Main St. in Manchester on Tuesday, March 28th, at 10am. followed by burial at West Cemetery.
