Obituary of Edward T. McLaughlin

Edward T. McLaughlin (91), of Manchester, CT, passed away on March 3, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones.

Edward, fondly known as Eddie, was predeceased by his parents Francis (Frank) McLaughlin and Rose (Fitzgerald) McLaughlin, and his brothers Phil and Gerald McLaughlin. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Gene of 67 years and their 3 daughters and sons-in-law Loren Garrity and her husband Lee, Kim Carpenter and her husband Paul, Corinne Winston and her husband Greg; as well as their 5 grandchildren Melissa Pradke, Jacqueline Viens Schors, Ryan Garrity, Brianna Gill, Angelina Gill; their great grandchildren Grey Klecak and Lucy Garrity; his sister-in-law Sylvia Cestaro and many special nieces and nephews. He loved to spend time with his family to share holidays, special moments or just to enjoy some time in the nice weather having a cookout in the back yard.

Eddie worked in the linen services industry for most of his adult life and retired from Middlesex Memorial Hospital after working there as the Linen Services Manager for over 20 years. He was very fond of all sports and was an avid golfer, belonging to Tallwood Country Club for 50 years. He enjoyed playing pool with his friends at the Manchester Senior Center in his retirement years and had a competitive streak when playing golf and pool tournaments. He continued to win pool tournaments into his 90’s. His gentle, easy going nature and sharp wit made him well loved by those who were fortunate to have been in his life.

John F. Tierney Funeral Home has care of the arrangements. Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 11:00am at St. Bartholomew Church (please meet directly at Church), 736 Middle Tpke in Manchester, followed by burial at St. James Cemetery.
