Obituary of Joyce C. McDermott

Joyce (Knight) McDermott, 91, of Manchester, wife of the late Willard E. McDermott, and beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully at Manchester Manor Nursing Home on February 1, 2023, following a lengthy illness.

Joyce was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 16, 1931, to the late Esther and James Knight. She lived in multiple cities with her husband and four children before settling in Manchester.  Joyce was a loving and proud wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Joyce celebrated holidays with gusto, particularly Christmas Eve. She was a serious bridge player and enjoyed golfing, gardening, cooking, baking, and making a wide variety of homemade crafts. 

She is survived by her daughters Karen Harden and husband Chuck of Chattanooga, TN, Nancy Hennick and husband Tom of Durham, Sharlene Bedard of Glastonbury, and daughter-in-law Susan McDermott of Glastonbury; nine grandchildren, Kariann (Cris) Richardson, Kristin (Paul) Case, Kirk (Lindsey) Kinamon, Aimee (Jeff) Germ, David (Karen) Harden, Meghan Hennick, Jamie (James) Hennick, Holly (Michael) Hennick, Paul (Rick) Bedard, Scott Bedard, and Joyce Bedard; 8 great grandchildren; foster son Michael Strohmeier and his wife Karen, and sister-in-law Anne Knight and her daughter Laura Knight. She was predeceased by her son Jeffery McDermott, brother James Knight, sons-in-law Steven Bedard and Victor Kinamon, as well as her grandson, Karll Kinamon.

John F. Tierney Funeral Home has care of the arrangements. Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday, February 6^th from 10am to 11am at United Churches of Durham, 228 Main St. in Durham, with a service to follow at 11. Burial is private and will take place at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N.
