Obituary of James Murphy
James Murphy, 92, of Manchester, CT, passed away on January 11, 2023.
Jim was born in Tydavnet, Co. Monaghan, Ireland to John and Mary McMeel Murphy, and was the youngest of their 10 children. After World War 2, at the age of 16, he moved to Manchester, England to live with his sister Ellie. He immigrated to Hartford, CT, and was married to Mary Carney of Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo from October 1955 until her death in 2005.
Jim spent his Army service stationed in Italy. He worked as a Real Estate Examiner for the State of Connecticut and a teacher of Real Estate at the University of CT, retiring in 1990. His interests were traveling and his beloved grandchildren. He was a proud member of The Irish American Home Society in Glastonbury.
Jim is survived by his wife Pamela Thomas Murphy, his son Kevin Murphy and wife Lynn Kozin of Manchester, his son Mark Murphy and grandchildren Lauren Murphy and Morgan Murphy of West Hartford, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by all of his siblings.
Family and friends may call on the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center St. in Manchester on Thursday, January 26th from 4-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 27th, at 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Assumption, 27 Adams St. S., followed by burial at St. James Cemetery.
