Obituary of Bernard E. Kean
Bernard E. Kean, 88, of Manchester passed away January 5, 2023, after a long series of illnesses. Bernard was born April 14, 1934, in Des Moines, Iowa to the late Bernard William and Irene Kean.
He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Patricia; his son Kevin; his son Michael, his wife Eileen, and son Sean; and his son Terrance and his daughters Fiona and Sophia.
Bernard obtained a law degree from Notre Dame University. He moved his young family to Connecticut in 1968. Bernard worked for Travelers Insurance Company, both in Iowa and in Connecticut. After his retirement, he worked part-time for Arbitration Forums. He also volunteered with the Cub Scouts, serving as a leader for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed bird watching, doing puzzles, and watching Notre Dame football. But most of all he took pleasure in singing. At various times in his life, he was a member of the Traveler’s Chorale, Silk City Chorus, and St. Bartholomew Church Choir.
Those who knew Bernard will miss his corny jokes and his seemingly endless knowledge of trivia.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Bernard’s caregivers at Manchester Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, and especially to his hospice team.
There will be no calling hours. The funeral and burial will be private. You are encouraged to make a donation to your favorite charity in Bernard’s name.
