Obituary of Joan P. McKiernan

Joan Patricia (Mullen) McKiernan passed away peacefully on December 11, 2022, with her loving family by her side. Born in Hartford, CT on January 20, 1931, to the late Edward Mullen and Annie (Taylor) Mullen. She was a devoted wife to her late beloved husband Raymond McKiernan.

Joan was a stay-at-home mom but later in life worked for the East Hartford and Rocky Hill School systems. She loved attending the Bolton Senior Center. Joan was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was loved by so many for her fun and crazy personality and was always the life of the party.

Joan leaves her children Susan Gessay, Raymond and Chris McKiernan, Edward and Deidre McKiernan and Robert and Maureen McKiernan. Also, her seven grandchildren Kristy Dyer, Kevin McKiernan, Kylee McKiernan, Max McKiernan, Brynna McKiernan, Robbie McKiernan and Micayla McKiernan and seven great-grandchildren Hudsyn, Stellen, Presley, London, Crew, Gracelyn and Lux. Joan also leaves step-grandchildren Kristy LaPorte, Marcy Boilard, Karen Bohr, Will and Katie Cameron, and many step great-grandchildren. Joan also leaves her special sister Kathy Doerfler and many nieces, and nephews.

Calling hours will be Thursday, January 5^th, 2023, from 4-7 pm at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St. in Manchester. Funeral service will be Friday, January 6th at St. Christopher’s Church, East Hartford at 10:00 am. Burial to follow at Silver Lane Cemetery. Donations may be made to www.dementiasociety.
