Dear Jean, Cathy and Meredith,
Sue and I send our condolences to you and your extended families. We thought of your family last summer when we went to watch a water skiing competition at Coventry Lake where several of my daughter Marybeth's students were competing.
I will always remember how Dick and I grew up at Hartford National where we developed a high regard for Community Bankers. We enjoyed working with bankers who in turn did so much for their townspeople.
We will keep Dick and his family in our prayers,
Sincerely, Pete and Sue Sposito

My deepest sympathies to the family in this time of grief. Words can hardly console with the loss of this exceptional man, this husband, father, grandfather, philanthropist, friend. I consider Dick my teacher, my mentor and my friend. He was an avid supporter of MCC believing in opening doors for educational opportunity. When you were in his orbit, he always had your back. We spent many meetings talking about the college and those meetings often included his sharing about the family he loved beyond measure and was dedicated to before all else. Thank you for your confidence and trust, Dick. You were one of a kind. I'll miss you.

Dick was generous to a fault, warmhearted and the living embodiment of the American dream. His Jesuit education gave him his sense of right and wrong. His gridiron toughness taught him the value of dedication to achieving a goal no matter how difficult the obstacles. His curiosity and lust for life enabled him to observe the finer things in life as he grew to a young man and saw his path forward. He was no stereotypical banker. He had a keen business sense but more importantly he enjoyed people and appreciated their differences. Dick was more fun than any banker had a right to be. His bank was his baby and enabled him to enjoy a vastly expanded family. I know he missed that family very much the years after the bank was sold. However, the sale of the bank provided significant wealth to a broad section of the community it served. Few realize how much prosperity was transferred to the community by Dick's efforts. His legacy continues with the foundation he helped create. As someone who had the privilege to work with Dick and spend many personal hours with him, I appreciated how much he put into his relationships with others. He was a friend to a fault and will be missed sorely by all who knew him. May he rest in peace. My condolences to his wife Jean and his daughters who were never far from his mind and always in his heart.

Jean, Cathy, Meredith and family,
Sending our deepest sympathies to all. We have such wonderful memories with Dick. Beach time at GLP, fireworks and of coarse our visits on “the porch” at South.
He was always so kind to our family and we truly adored him. He will always remain such a large presence in our precious days raising our children.
Much love, Mark, Candy and the Lenihan crew
