Bernardine Stolp

Obituary of Bernardine Stolp

Bernardine “Bernie” Dady Stolp, 74, of Southport, NC died peacefully on November 19.  Bernie was the loving wife of Loren Stolp, her husband of 52 years.  Bernie was born to Mary and Thomas Dady in Rochester (Irondequoit), NY.  Bernie will be missed by her husband, her daughter Karen Poirier, her son-in-law Jeffery Poirier, her grandchild Emilia Poirier, her son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Michelle Stolp, her loving dog Abbey and her many close friends.  She was predeceased by her parents and brother James Dady.

Bernie received her RN in nursing from Monroe Community College, her BS in sociology from the NYS University College at Brockport and her MS in nursing from the University of Connecticut.  Bernie worked many years in community health as a visiting nurse, taught nursing at St Joesph’s College, and finished her professional career in her favorite job of all, as a school nurse at Goodwin Elementary School in Mansfield, CT.

Bernie found so much joy and fulfillment volunteering at the churches she faithfully attended in Manchester, CT, Ludlow, VT and Southport NC.  She spent her later years alternating between Ludlow, where she enjoyed the mountains, and Southport where she enjoyed the beaches, and especially enjoyed each of them when joined by family and friends.  She loved hiking, running, skiing and reading and was especially proud at having climbed Mt Washington, run a marathon and skied the Mt Blanc glacier.  She also loved each of her dogs very much; Samantha, Ginger, Daisy and now Abbey.  She will be remembered as the kindest, most loving wife and mother and friend anyone could have.
