Obituary of Marie Flynn

Marie (Mannella) Flynn, 82, died November 3, 2022. She died peacefully at home in the watchful care of visiting nurses Celestine and Cynthia of ALL WAYS THERE HOME CARE. Born in East Hartford on March 8, 1940, to Anthony and Eunice Mannella, the family moved to Manchester and then to Windsor Locks, where Marie excelled in high school. She graduated from Regis College and began her career in the insurance industry.

She married Donald Flynn in 1965. Together they raised their three children, Jennifer Flynn Bernard (Thomas), Dr Matthew Flynn, Deirdre Flynn Hoey (Frank) each of whom grieve her passing. Their first child Christine was stillborn. Marie’s beloved granddaughters, Tamaki Flynn, Alexandra Bernard, Mackenzie Hoey, Teagan Hoey, Grace Hoey will greatly mourn the loss of their grandmother. Her sister Nancy (George) and family survive her. Preceding her were her parents and brother Anthony “Butch” Mannella.

Most of Marie’s career was in libraries: Schimelpfenig Library Plano Texas, Mary Cheney and Whiton in Manchester. She delighted in sharing her love of reading, particularly with children.

Donations to Hartford Hospital Kidney Transplant Program will honor her memory.

Funeral arrangements are with the John F Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Street, Manchester CT. Calling hours are Thursday, November 10, 2022, from 4pm to 6pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, November 11 at 10am at Saint Patrick/Saint Anthony Church, 285 Church Street, Hartford.
