Obituary of Barbara McKeever

Barbara Dunn McKeever, nee Barbara Ann Dunn, “Bobbie”, age 80 of Middletown, CT passed away peacefully at home, on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family. Daughter of the late Lawrence and Dorothy Dunn, she was born in Hartford, CT on March 12, 1942. She graduated from Manchester High School and continued her education at St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing and obtained her RN degree in 1963. 

Barbara was married to her 8th grade sweetheart, Peter J. McKeever on July 2, 1966, for over 56 wonderful years. She began her nursing career at Manchester Memorial Hospital before accompanying her husband, travelling around the world with the US Army. During that time, she became a Certified Childbirth Educator, a Lamaze instructor, and helped countless families through their childbirth journey at the many military bases on which they lived.  After Peter retired from the military in 1987, they returned to their home state of Connecticut, where she pursued her passion for maternity care. Bobbie worked at UCONN/John Dempsey Hospital where she was blessed to spend the last 20 years of her nursing career.  While at UCONN, she worked in the newborn nursery, taught childbirth classes, and ultimately become a Certified Lactation Consultant.  She retired from UCONN in 2009 to spend her golden years as an active member of the St. Pius X community and attending as many Boston Red Sox games as possible with her loving husband. 

Bobbie is survived by her husband, Dr. Peter J. McKeever DDS, and seven children, Michael and Therese (Tardy), Stephen and Lynn Schuck, David and Pamela (Spooner), Douglas and Linda Wolfersdorf, Kevin and Leah (Christie), Meghan, and Kathleen and Matt Danilowicz; her sisters Kathie Boulay and Shirley Dunn, as well as her 13 grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son Mark. 

John F. Tierney Funeral Home has care of the arrangements. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30am on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at St. Pius X Church, 310 Westfield St. Middletown, CT 06457 (Meet at church), followed by burial at Middletown Veteran's Cemetery.
