Obituary of Maria E. Muscatello

Maria E. Muscatello of Binghamton, New York passed away peacefully on July 20th, 2022 in Manchester, Connecticut.

 

Maria is survived by her son, Dana Schnabel and his wife Rachel; siblings Camille Muscatello, Andrea Persico (Rocco), Thomas Muscatello (Frank Cufone), Laura O'Neill (Kevin) and John Muscatello (Gloria); 10 nieces and nephews, and 12 great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary S. (Gentile) and Thomas A. Muscatello, whom she loved and cared for dearly.

 

Maria was a graduate of Binghamton Catholic Central H.S., Class of ’74; Mt. Ida College; University of Arizona at Tucson; and Columbia University. She earned her Master’s degree in Special Education. She worked in a variety of roles over the years for organizations including Sullivan Diagnostic Treatment Center, The Children's Home of Wyoming Conference, and the Southern Tier Independence Center; taught at a number of public and private schools; and most recently served as an adjunct professor at SUNY Oneonta. She coordinated innumerous community programs for youth, elderly, and people with disabilities. Maria was also a proponent of complementary medicine and practiced Jin Shin Jyutsu.

 

She loved dancing, hiking, gardening, board games, family, traveling, camping, and “spontaneous adventures”. She had a keen sense of humor and cared deeply about nature and the environment. Her kindness and sensitivity to all living things was unending, and her generous light will shine on in the many lives she touched.

 

Service and burial will take place Saturday, July 23rd, 11:00AM at Spring Forest Cemetery (51 Mygatt Street, Binghamton, NY). A reception will follow at 12:30pm at the Bundy Museum Carriage House Annex (129 Main Street, Binghamton, NY)
