Obituary of Cecilia Stebner

Cecilia Mulroy Stebner, age 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 18, 2020, in Spring Lake, North Carolina. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts to Martin John Mulroy and Catherine Mulroy (nee Donahue) but lived the majority of her life in Connecticut. She enjoyed her retirement with stints in Georgia and Florida as well as Manchester, Connecticut.

A favorite pastime was reading the obituaries and so it is tempting to manufacture items in hers that would entertain her. She worked through the years in various administrative positions, ending her career at the Hartford. This suited her well as she loved editing the speech of her children and grandchildren - particularly attempting to eliminate "like" from their comments and in other ways attempting to improve their grammar. She loved reading biographies, reading the newspaper daily and completing their puzzles, and playing Scrabble as often as she could find a willing competitor. Her progeny often enjoyed the fruits of her knitting efforts. 

Her main passion, however, was practicing her faith in generous ways as well as devotionally at her local parishes. She was always volunteering - be it with parent- teacher organizations at that time of life, or with Respect Life organizations during her retirement. But often it was in more personal ways such as giving rides to other seniors who were no longer driving. She was diligent to keep up lifelong friendships as well as always welcoming new people into her circle.

Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents and siblings as well as her former husband. She is survived by her five children, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, whom she adored and for whom she prayed daily.

A funeral mass will be Friday, July 22nd, at 10:30am at St Bridget Catholic Church in Manchester. In lieu of flowers, she wished donations to be made to the Manchester Area Conference of Churches or to Birthright of Greater Hartford.
