What a firecracker you were Bernie!! We girls at Customer Service are so very grateful for the time we had with you. You're visits to our office at the Town Hall were always the highlight of our day.
Your love for Manchester and the symbol of patriotism that you were, well Bernie it was an honor to know you.
You standing out front the Town Hall petitioning in all kinds of weather, rain, heat for the flag to be put along Main St.
Also in 2013 through your petitioning for the American Flag to fly at the top of the Town Hall was finally approved.
Us girls would go out to bring you bottles of cold water and beg you to come in and cool off, or rest, but the answer was always the same. NO!
The love you showed us by bringing us flowers, visiting us weekly and showing us your love with your gentle harassment will stay with us girls always.
Rest in the arms of Our Lord Bernie, for you have blessed us with your undying service to your country, the Town of Manchester, and "the girls in Customer Service"
Always our love,
Doreen, Patty, Julie and Cathy

If ever there was a man more interesting, charismatic or patriotic, it would be Bernie. I had the honor and privilege to accompany Bernie on an Honor Flight back in April 2013. Seemed like a long time ago but from 2013 till early-mid 2019 Bernie would call me just about every month, although when the motivation to take on the Town to line Main Street with the beautiful American Flag, he called at least once a week to fill me in on the escapades! One thing for sure he said never mess with a retired man, he has plenty of time to devote to a cause important for the town he loved.
Bernie loved to recollect the time and joy the Honor Flight had given him and so many countless others that were on the trips, always hoping the organization would continue which sadly ended in 2015. He felt there would still be so many Veterans who may not get the chance to experience THEIR memorials in Washington DC. And that is another facet of Bernie, he cared about others, those known and unknown, realizing things could always be worse than what others may be going through; always to enjoy the day as it was a precious gift from God. Bernie my friend, it was a pleasure knowing you, a wealth of living, breathing history of WWII. A proud man, a true American Patriot. God speed.

Judy, thank you for sharing your beautiful thoughts and memories. We "girls" at Town Hall recall when Bernie decided to take the Honor Flight and when he shared about the experience it was through tears - he truly felt honored, by all who made it happen, including all the children who participated. He loved to joke around, but that was a sincere moment of heartfelt humble gratitude. God bless you Bernie!

Dad, what I will remember most is the recent history we had during our videochats. We had some good chats and I'm grateful we had that time. Chatting with you makes me really want to go to Scotland.
