Obituary of John P. Murphy
John P. Murphy, 72, of Vernon, beloved husband of the late Deborah Ann (Aglio) Murphy, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with brain cancer on Sunday, May 8, 2022. He was the son of the late Timothy and Dorothy (Fraher) Murphy. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he was a longtime member and supporter of the East Glastonbury Fish and Game Club. He had retired from The Aetna after many years of service.
John is survived by his children Brian Murphy and his wife Amory of Vernon, Carrie Murphy and Leon Sibley of Manchester; grandchildren Bryan, Brianna, Brailey, Brayden, Breah, LJ and Colton; siblings Barbara O’Callaghan and her husband John of Wethersfield, Beverly Nill of Bristol, Kathleen Martin of Windsor, Dorothy Fox and her husband Robert of Manchester, Margaret Seely and her husband Paul of Old Saybrook, Michael Murphy and his wife Susan of Southington, and Maureen Burrier and her husband Donald of East Hartford; a very close nephew and friend Terry Radican and his wife Sharlene, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Deborah, brother Timothy Murphy and brother-in-law George Nill.
Family and friends may call on the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center Street, Manchester, on Sunday, May 15, 2022, from 3 – 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 16th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick - St. Anthony Parish, 285 Church Street, Hartford, burial to follow at Buckland Cemetery in Manchester.
A special thank you to Kevin, Terry, Craig and Sean for having a guy’s dinner night every Thursday. John really looked forward to these weekly gatherings with all of you.
