Obituary of Erta Alexandre

Erta (Gouin) Alexandre, 88, of Manchester, CT entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 2, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.  Born May 16, 1933, in Les Cayes, Haiti, Erta was the loving daughter of Absalon and Julia (Gedeon) Gouin.  She came to the United States in 1964 to build a better life and raise a family.  Erta retired from The Travelers Insurance Co. after many years of service and started a second career as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Crestfield Rehabilitation Center in Manchester. After retirement, one of her passions was competing as a ballroom dancer with Arthur Murray Dance Studio.

Erta was fearless and would say “be a leader, not a follower.” In true form, she overcame obstacles; was a trailblazer laying the foundation for her children, family and others to follow. Erta was a loving and devoted mother, no sacrifice was too great to ensure her children’s happiness and success. She had a zest for life and loved spending time with family, cooking delicious meals, sewing, traveling, and going to the casino. 

Erta is survived by four siblings: Laurette Paul of Springfield Gardens, NY; Pierre Gouin of Manchester, CT; Mathilde Dupervil of Manchester, CT; and, Carlo Gouin of Elmont, NY.  She was predeceased by her brothers, Father Nerva Gouin, Monseigneur Albert Gouin, and Max Gouin, and sister, Simone Boyer.   Erta will forever be missed by her children, Richard Alexandre of South Windsor, CT and Marjorie (Alexandre) Davis and her husband, Lawrence of Hartford, CT; and five beloved grandchildren Jordan Alexandre, Julian Alexandre and Jadan Alexandre of South Windsor, CT; and Lauryn Davis and Nicole Davis of Hartford, CT; and many more loving family members and friends.

Calling hours for family and friends are on Friday, April 8 from 9:00-10:30am at John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center St, Manchester, CT.  Mass follows at 11:00am at The Church of the Assumption, 27 S. Adams Street, Manchester, CT. Burial is immediately following at East Cemetery, Manchester.
