Simone Jacques

Obituary of Simone M. Jacques

It is with great sadness that the family of Simone (Blais) Jacques, of East Hartford CT, announce her passing on March 27, 2022. At 100 years old, she passed peacefully at home, cherished and surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on October 16, 1921, in St. Mathieu, Quebec, Canada to the late Joseph Blais and Georgine (Grenier) Blais.

On April 14, 1941, she married Napoleon Jacques in Shawinigan Falls, Quebec.  They moved to Montreal in 1945 and in 1948, they made the decision to come to America and settled in Hartford, CT, where they remained and raised their family.

She dedicated her life to loving and nurturing her family and to her faith in God.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and family.  She was quick to smile, would never turn down a good piece of chocolate or a sweet of any kind.  She was a devout Catholic, starting her day by watching the daily mass on TV and ending her day by saying her rosary in the evening.

Her knitted afghan blankets, prayer shawls and slippers will be cherished by her family members for years to come. She was an excellent seamstress and spent many hours sewing, making alterations, and repairing clothing for her family. She also liked to tend to her flower garden, read the daily newspaper, play cards, board games, listen to music, watch the birds come to the bird feeders, and share stories of her earlier years.  She spent several winter vacations visiting her daughters in Florida. The last four years, she enjoyed spending her summers at Crystal Lake at her daughter’s lake house.  Christmas was her favorite holiday and she would bake her traditional Christmas cookies and make her meat pies.

She is survived by her seven children (and spouses), Robert and Rosemary Jacques of Taunton, MA; Gerard Jacques and Nancy Fightlin of Newington, CT; Helene Vaulding of Stafford Springs; Lise and Roger Carter of Indiantown, FL; Nelson and Barbara Jacques of Tolland, CT; Carol and Robert Theroux of Bonita Springs, FL; and Dianne and Michael Bernier of East Hartford, CT; with whom she lived since 2005.  She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Helena LeComte, Kevin Waskiewicz, Kim Vail, Mark Carter, Brian Carter, Wendy Pisciotta, Katherine Jacques, Laura Badecker, Amy Bergeron, Michelle Bernier, Joseph Bernier, as well as by twelve great grandchildren, Keith Ricci, Mark Carter, Kasey Carter, Leo Carter, Max Carter, Elizabeth Pisciotta, Alison Pisciotta, Violet Badecker, Iris Badecker, Nathaniel Auperlee, Abigail Bergeron, Skylar Bergeron, and also by one great-great granddaughter, Simone Ricci and many nieces, nephews and friends.  She was predeceased by her loving husband of 72 years, Napoleon Jacques, her four brothers and three sisters, a grandson, Ryan Bergeron, a son-in-law, Richard Vaulding, and her grandson’s wife, Dawn Waskiewicz. As the matriarch of this large family, the lack of her presence will be felt greatly.

The family would like to thank the staff at Masonicare Home Health and Hospice, and Veronica, Delrose and Chery of Second Chance Home Care for taking such wonderful care of our mom.
