Obituary of Walter D. Scholsky

Walter David Scholsky, 90, of Manchester, CT, beloved husband of Marjorie (Reynolds) Scholsky, died peacefully at home on February 14, 2022, after a long illness. He was born in Stafford, CT and was the son of the late Sigismund and Mary (Wysocki) Scholsky.

Walter lived in Connecticut his whole life, the majority of it in Manchester. He attended Manchester High School and Cheney Technical School before becoming a metal fabricator at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. His entire life he was a talented toolmaker and craftsman who loved metal and woodworking. If he couldn’t find the right tool for the job, then he would make one. He also loved making grandfather clocks.

His real desire was to teach, so he attended Central Connecticut State University (Teacher’s College) where he majored in education and then Trinity College, where he received his Master’s Degree in English, with American Poet Robert Frost as his Master’s Thesis.

Walter went on to teach 9th grade English at Bennett Jr. High in Manchester, until his retirement in 1991. He is a US veteran, having served in the US Army. He loved the outdoors, spending many summers fly fishing and gardening and teaching fly tying classes to aspiring fishermen. His greatest love was his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Marjorie; his son Michael and his wife Diana; his daughter Aileen; grandchildren Daniel and his wife Sarah; Max Westman and Sara Westman; great-granddaughter Arianna and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Kevin; brother, The Reverend Martin Scholsky; sister Rita Jaworski and Sr. Anthony Mary (Catherine) Scholsky.
