Sharon Dayton

Obituary of Sharon Dayton

Sharon L. (Gingras) Dayton, 73, beloved wife of Robert M. Dayton, of Manchester, went to her eternal home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ from her earthly home surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 6, 2022. She was born in Hartford to the late Omer and Carolyn Gingras. Sharon was an active member of Trinity Covenant Church in Manchester.

Sharon leaves behind Bob, her husband of 51 years, sons R. Scott Dayton and his wife Kara of Southbury, Mark Dayton of Manchester, Benjamin Dayton and his wife Kimberly of West Hartford, grandchildren Morrighan, Teaghan, Hadley and Paige, as well as her brother Richard Gingras and his wife Marilyn of Sandy Hook, CT.

Sharon loved to sing, first with round table choir in high school, and then choir and worship team at church. She was also in prison ministries with the Gideons for 25+ years, then with Alpha groups at prisons – always accompanied by her trusty ukulele. More recently, she led seniors in singing at church and at nursing homes. Sharon also for many years made the most delicious cakes for weddings, birthdays, showers, often hand decorated with scripture verses that inspired.

Sharon worked outside the home for a time, then devoted 14 years at home nurturing her sons to high school. Then it was back to work to help finance travel adventures – ocean cruises, vintage car tours, Southwest National Parks… She retired from her position as administrative assistant to the Town of Manchester Planning and Zoning Department after 21 years.

Although blessing others through music or cakes was important, Sharon, in turn felt extremely blessed and proud watching the three sons that she had loved and encouraged become such fine young men.

When Sharon first met Bob, she knew by the end of that blind date that they were meant for each other. The love they shared grew stronger throughout their life together.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. A memorial service is planned for the Spring.
