Obituary of Joan Rita Sigman

Joan Rita Sigman passed away on December 9, 2021. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts on May 12, 1933, to William and Mary (Hunt) Sigman, spending her childhood and young adult years in the Lowell area and then moving to Connecticut in the mid-1970’s residing in Manchester, Wethersfield and most recently, East Hartford.

She was predeceased by her parents, baby sister, Leona and her brother, Bill, brother-in-law, Arthur J. Libbey, Jr. and sister-in-law, Kay Sigman. Joan is survived by her older sister, Doris Libbey of Broad Brook, Doris’ sister-in-law, Therese Libbey and many nieces and nephews and their spouses, Cathy Kapa (Greg), Beth Grant (Stu), Gail Finn (Jim), Mary Charles (Ken), Arthur Libbey (Nic), Lisa Banta (Russ) and David Sigman, grand nieces and nephews, Jody Tarr (Chris), Jackie Ritchie (Dave), Billy Grant, Bob Kapa (Kate), Jim Kapa, Kyle Charles, Matt Grant, Korey Charles (Rebecca), Kurt Charles, Emily Finn, Amanda Finn, Dan Libbey, Katie Libbey, Emily Banta, Jacob Banta, Matt Sigman, Adam Sigman and Vivian Sigman and great grand nieces and nephews, Christian Tarr, Peyton Ritchie, Brandon Kapa, Ryan Ritchie, Audrey Kapa and Annabelle Charles. In addition, she leaves several first cousins in Florida, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Joan made many friends throughout her lifetime and especially enjoyed family gatherings and birthday celebrations and social events such as eating out, playing bingo and keno, going to the casino and shopping. Some of her favorite activities were doing word search books and picture puzzles, knitting and crafting, and listening to a variety of music. As a resident for several years at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center, she made many friends and participated in numerous activities and social events, and especially enjoyed the outings.

Services will be held at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Street, Manchester, CT on Friday, December 17, 2021, with a wake from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by the funeral Liturgy at 7:00 p.m. A private burial will be at a later date at St. Patrick Cemetery in Lowell, Massachusetts.
