Obituary of Alfred J. Logan

Alfred "Tippy" J. Logan, Jr., 83, of Manchester, CT, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2021. Born in Waltham, MA, on February 4, 1938, son of the late Alfred J. Logan, Sr. and Helen Green Logan. Al was a lifelong resident of Manchester. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy and retired from United Parcel Service after 30 years of employment and was a member of Teamsters Local 671. Al was also a member of Assumption Church, Knights of Columbus Council 573, Manchester Elks Lodge 1893, and the Army Navy Club. He was the proud owner of Al’s Grinders and LaPizza, formerly located in Vernon.

Al loved his family beyond words, and is survived by his wife of 60 years, Beverly Gage Logan; three daughters, Dawn Karabetsos and her husband Michael of Manchester, Renee Logan of Tolland, and Jennifer Magro and her husband Subby of Marlborough. “Papa” leaves behind eight grandchildren, James, Ashley, and Ryan Karabetsos, Kylie and Sierra Bowman, John, Samantha, and Cara Magro. Al also leaves his brother, Donald Logan, of Manchester, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, especially Joe Zimmitti and Carl Deyette. He was predeceased by his sister, Doris Mawn.

Al could be found cheering on the Red Sox and the UCONN Women’s Basketball team with his beloved dog, Katie. Beverly cared for Al for many years at home while facing the everyday challenges of dementia.  The family would like to thank the staff of Brookdale Buckingham and VITAS Hospice for their kindness and loving care of Al during his time with them.

Memorial contributions may be made in Al’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. A gathering and celebration of Al’s life will be announced at a later date.
