Obituary of Robert J. Kostek

Robert J. Kostek, 78, of Manchester, beloved husband of Linda (Manseau) Kostek died Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Born in Hartford, the son of the late Joseph and Frances Kostek, he grew up in East Hartford and had lived in Manchester for many years. He was a US Army National Guard veteran and had retired from the Connecticut State Police as the Supervisor of the Bureau of ID. In his retirement, Robert had worked at the Manchester Police Dept. in Evidence, and at St. Bartholomew Church as a custodian. He was a member of the I.A.I. and had helped build the AFIS system for the State of Connecticut. Robert was also a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and had visited Haiti on three occasions on missionary trips with HHF. He loved old cars, UConn Women’s Basketball, the New York Giants and his Friday play dates with Ken. In addition to his loving wife Linda, he is survived by his daughter Allison Kostek of Vernon; his grandchildren Megan Shellito, Ashleigh Shellito, Thomas Shellito and Tyler Tuma; and his four-legged cuddle companion Toby, who helped him grieve the loss of his daughter Christine Kostek Shellito, who predeceased him in 2019. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 25th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church 15 Maplewood Ave. East Hartford, CT. Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St. Manchester on Friday from 4:00-8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Vincent DePaul Conference, St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, 80 Main St., Manchester, CT 06042 or HHF, 97 Sherman St., Norwich, CT 06360.
