Obituary of Salvatore Petito

Salvatore Petito (To, Sal), 89, of West Hartford, Connecticut, passed away on 3 September 2021, peacefully in his sleep.

Salvatore was born in Volturara Irpina, Provincia di Avellino Italia on 26 December 1931.    He graduated from La Scuala Elementare di Volturara and continued to train as an Aprendista (Master Cabinet Maker and Artisan) in Napoli Italia.

Salvatore was married to Carmela Marra on 6 August 1966; they were married 7 years.

Salvatore worked as a Master Cabinet Maker for Berube Woodworking Company of Manchester and then transferred on to work for the State of Connecticut. He enjoyed traveling to Italia, playing the saxophone, dancing, and watching European football.  He was a participant of the fundraising events for La Chiesa Madre di Volutara Irpina Provincia di Avellino Italia.

Salvatore is survived by his sisters and respective spouses Gilda and Joseph Petretta and Maria and Stephen Burke, his daughter Felicina Petito, Carmela Marra (former wife) and several nieces and nephews with respective spouses and grand nieces and nephews.

Salvatore is preceded in death by his parents, Felicina and Bernardo Petito, his siblings Maria and Mario Petito and several aunts and uncles on both the paternal and maternal families.

The calling hour will be on Thursday, the 9th of September 2021 starting at 5:00PM with a funeral service to proceed immediately after at 6:00PM at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home at 219 West Center Street in Manchester Connecticut.  A private family burial will be held the following day at St. James Cemetery. For online condolences, please visit www.tierneyfuneralhome.com.

The family of Salvatore Petito wishes to thank the Staff from both Trinity Hospice and the Hebrew Community Services Adult Day Center for their compassion, dedication and assistance in allowing him to maintain dignity during his final days.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Elizabeth Park Conservancy for a Park Bench Dedication for Salvatore Petito. Salvatore and his family have frequented this historic site over the years and in his final days he enjoyed traversing the path in his transport chair taking in the beautiful view.
