Elisabeth Healy

Obituary of Elisabeth Healy

Elisabeth "Beth" Finnegan Healy, 101, recently of South Windsor, formerly of Manchester for over 80 years, went home to be with the Lord on September 3, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

Beth was born on May 29, 1920, in Ossining NY, to W. George and Marie "Molly" Daly Finnegan. She was the eldest of three children, predeceased by her brother William G. Finnegan Jr. and sister Margaret LaFrancis. She was married to her beloved husband of over fifty years, Dr. Thomas McLean Healy (deceased, 1998), and together they raised six children. She was predeceased by a son, Thomas J. Healy and a daughter, Ellery Healy Leary (2000).

She leaves her loving children: Mary (Ed Touchette) Healy, John (Jennifer) Healy, Meg (Bob) Hoey, and Jim (Beth Burke) Healy as well as six grandchildren: Erin (Tom) Daley, Tom Healy, Rob (Alison) Lockwood, Tom Lockwood, Elizabeth and Robert Hoey, along with two great grandchildren, Ellery and Elisabeth and many nieces and nephews.

Beth attended Manchester schools and was a proud graduate of Manchester High School and Saint Joseph’s University (West Hartford, CT) where she received a degree in Nutrition and then began an internship at Saint Agnes Hospital (Baltimore, MD). She met her husband while she was a dietician at the U.S. Veteran’s Hospital in Newington, CT.

Beth spent her life serving the Lord, exemplified by her deep devotion to her Catholic faith and her commitment to the church. Beth always put raising her family first and still found time to volunteer as a committee member of the auxiliary of the Manchester Memorial Hospital, the Manchester Historical Society, Dietician for the Manchester Early Learning Center (MELC), The Hartford Branch of Saint Joseph College Club and several ministries of St. Bridget’s Church (Manchester, CT), where she was a devout parishioner for over 80 years.

Beth was deeply loved and cherished by so many and always responded with a smile to her endearing names: “Mom, Ma, Nana, GG-Ma, Aunt, and Nugget.” She was a gourmet chef, avid reader, creative gardener, energetic walker, talented crafter, enthusiastic tennis player, and a lifelong friend of many. She enjoyed traveling internationally as well as spending summers in Hampton Beach, NH in her youth and Dennis, MA with her family. Beth will be lovingly forever remembered for her elegance, smile, manners, selflessness, grace, and compassion towards others.

The family wishes to profusely thank Dr. Angelee Carta for her dedicated care for Beth over the years. More recently, the family graciously wishes to thank the wonderful nurses and staff at The Residence at South Windsor Farms, especially Kristen, Katie, Kiki, and Ray for their exceptional care and compassionate friendships they gave Beth at their “nice hotel.”

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bridget’s Church, 80 Main Street, Manchester, CT 06042 on Tuesday, September 7th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be private. In celebration of Beth’s life, memorial contributions may be made to Manchester Area Conference of Churches (MACC Charities), 466 Main St, Manchester, CT 06040 or at https://macc-ct.org/donate-now/, as well as offering more smiles to others, spreading kindness and saying “Thank you” a little more often to show your appreciation of others.
